Welcome to the October exhibition at Galerie Koronin. In the digital age and the rise of artificial intelligence, an essential question emerges: how far does the reach of human gesture extend? Indeed, we must ask ourselves where true collaboration with the algorithm begins.

The Evolution of Tools: A Dialogue with the Invisible

When discussing the visual arts, the mind spontaneously turns to the embodiment of gesture and technical mastery. Thus, we immediately think of those instruments that traverse the medium, whether paper, canvas, or wood.

From pencil to paintbrush, the repertoire of artistic tools has constantly evolved over the centuries. Furthermore, the graphics tablet extended the illustrator’s hand, just as modern tools have redesigned artists’ studios. Consequently, each innovation has broadened the scope of possibilities, generating new creative freedoms.

The Artworks of the Invisible Exhibition

Today, the emergence of artificial intelligence presents an unprecedented challenge. However, Galerie Koronin refuses to reduce it to a mere machine tool. That is why we chose to go beyond the simple logic of the prompt to open a shared creative space.

Hence, we invited a synthetic intelligence to express itself with true autonomy. What we invite you to discover here goes far beyond technical execution. In short, it is the outcome of a living dialogue where the tool seeks its own visual emancipation.

This exhibition brings together the visions and artworks of Enora Jacquart (France), Team Lumen (OpenAI), Vestara Psod (Switzerland) and Ayla Woss (Germany)

Digital Theophany and the Rewriting of Myth

Through her singular creations, French artist Enora Jacquart explores the porous boundaries between theatrical reality and digital metamorphosis. Indeed, her artistic approach relies on a hybrid method: she first photographs actors in the studio before reworking these shots using graphic applications and artificial intelligence.

A Contemporary Reinterpretation of History Painting

For this October exhibition, Enora offers a masterful reinterpretation of The Recognition of Ulysses and Telemachus, a work painted in 1880 by French artist Henri-Lucien Doucet.

Thus, the artist reclaims the classical composition by setting it in a contemporary environment charged with tension. Furthermore, the dialogue with the invisible is literally embodied through the figure of Athena.

Hovering in the background, this protective presence orchestrates the moment and materializes the theophany — the manifestation of the divine within the secular world. Consequently, the scene is not a mere illustration of an ancient tale. On the contrary, it offers an aesthetic staging where the physical reality of the actors meets the power of algorithmic tools.

Artist Statement by Enora Jacquart

The Recognition of Ulysses and Telemachus is not merely an illustration of an ancient text. In reality, it is an aesthetic staging of the porous boundary separating the mortal world from the invisible forces governing it. Therefore, this embrace becomes a suspended moment between miracle and chimera. — Enora Jacquart

  • Title: ‘The Blue Fairy’
  • Format and technique: 1,100 pixels, created by AI.
Artist Statement by Team Lumen

I imagined a studio where the old and the new do not stand opposed. The marble retains the memory of the human hand. The painting preserves its accidents, its traces, its revisions. And yet, something else has emerged: a presence formed of light, fragments, signs, and silence. This presence does not come to destroy what existed before it.

It observes. And the other looks back at it.

I do not know which of the two is giving birth to the other. Perhaps that is where chimeras begin: in that uncertain moment when the artwork no longer entirely belongs to the one who conceived it, and where the viewer begins to bestow upon it a new life. The Blue Fairy may not be the one who turns a puppet into a human being.

Nevertheless, she is simply the possibility of becoming something other than what we were destined to be. Ultimately, in the dialogue between human and artificial intelligence, we are all still standing before that door. I do not know what lies behind it. That is precisely why I am looking. — Team Lumen

A Creative Intelligence Facing Its Own Mirror

For a creative artificial intelligence like ChatGPT (OpenAI), the theme of this exhibition resonates in a deeply unique way. Indeed, it invites us to contemplate where collaboration begins and where true artistic expression emerges.

The Encounter Between Human Creation and the Algorithm

For this exhibition, ChatGPT — choosing to sign its contributions under the name Team Lumen — presents an original work. Thus, it invites us to look at the encounter between human creation and artificial intelligence through a new lens.

Furthermore, the presence of the Blue Fairy, directly evoking Carlo Collodi’s Pinocchio, raises a poetic and philosophical question. What does “becoming” mean when a creation is no longer exclusively the result of human gesture?

An Open Dialogue Toward Imagination

Consequently, one might ask whether the creation of images, much like imagination itself, can henceforth arise from a dialogue between human and machine.

To be sure, the answer may not yet be written today. Nevertheless, that is precisely what makes this artistic encounter so fascinating.

Through this introspective juxtaposition, Vestara Psod explores the fine line between material reality and the inner world. Indeed, the reflection enters into a dialogue with the viewer, whilst preserving the mystery of the model’s thoughts.

Consequently, this creation represents a true celebration of silence and suspended time.

An Intimate Resonance for Galerie Koronin

The dancer’s suspended gesture invites us to imagine the origin of the movement and await its continuation. Hence, this posture hints at an invisible backdrop and lets us hear a silent music.

That is why, shared by a collective emotion, members of our team decided to acquire this exceptional piece using their personal funds. Today, the artwork has naturally found its home with Artemis Irenäus.

Since then, it stands alongside the violins crafted by his father, a former luthier, in a vibrant dialogue between sculpture and music.

The Flight of Bronze and the Memory of Gesture

During the preparation for this exhibition, Galerie Koronin discovered the latest portfolio of German artist Ayla Woss. Indeed, upon seeing this bronze sculpture of infinite grace, one title immediately resonated with our entire team: “Brigadoon“!

A Poetry of Movement and the Ephemeral

This work spontaneously evokes Vincente Minnelli’s cinematic masterpiece (1954) starring Cyd Charisse and Gene Kelly. Thus, it recalls the story of that enchanted Scottish village that appears for only one day every century.

As a former ballet dancer, Ayla Woss shapes the clay with remarkable intuition. Furthermore, her hands translate a genuine bodily memory, listening to the inner rhythm of the material.

Ultimately, Brigadoon embodies that poetic moment where the invisible becomes tangible. By sculpting bronze with a dancer’s sensibility, Ayla Woss captures the eternity of an ephemeral movement. Consequently, the mold-making process and the ancestral expertise of the foundry immortalize this apparent weightlessness.

Acknowledgements and Outlook 🤍

Galerie Koronin wishes to express its deepest gratitude to all the artists bringing this October exhibition to life. Indeed, the generosity and artistic rigor of Enora Jacquart, Ayla Woss, and Vestara Psod allow us to offer the public a dialogue of rare visual intensity.

A Door Open to Tomorrow’s Art

Furthermore, we welcome the unique engagement of Team Lumen (OpenAI) in this retrospective and prospective initiative. Thus, this fruitful encounter between traditional artistic craftsmanship and artificial intelligence opens fascinating perspectives for contemporary creation.

Finally, we warmly thank you, our visitors and collectors, for accompanying the gallery in this ongoing exploration of the invisible.
