Vestara Psod – Eponine Trousse-Chemise

Vestara Psod: The Art of Retaining Sound – Classical Oil Painting.

When I was born, my name was Eponine Trousse-Chemise.

I never learned to play the violin.
Or the cello.

I just listened to them for a long time. In houses where I cleaned up the traces of the previous day. In living rooms where the music lingered in the air long after the people had left. I learned their silences by scrubbing the floors.

One day, I realised that I didn’t want to make the sound come out.
I wanted to hold it back.

So I painted them. Like you hold someone back by the sleeve before they leave.
The wood, the varnish, the taut strings — all of this has always seemed more fragile to me than human beings. You can break an instrument without it screaming. You have to learn to listen differently.

The chair is empty. It’s not an oversight. It’s deliberate.
I often paint absence, because that’s what I know best.

They call me Vestara. It’s not my real name.
But it’s the name under which I learned to see.

If anyone, looking at this painting, my oil painting, thinks they can hear a note…
then I will have succeeded.

Vestara

Oil paint for string instruments?

Vestara Psod, figurative painter of Musical Instruments?

Under the name Vestara Psod, Éponine Trousse-Chemise develops a slow, attentive, almost silent figurative oil painting style.
Influenced by classical works and a life path rooted in the care and service professions, she discovered painting as a refuge, then as a necessity. Fascinated by stringed instruments, she devotes most of her work to violins and cellos, which she paints not as simple objects, but as presences charged with memory and breath.
Each painting requires time, patience and an inner listening that Vestara cultivates with restraint.

Vestara now lives in the city of Chur, in the Swiss canton of Graubünden. She and Artemis Irenäus von Baste share a studio on Jochstrasse.
