Nicole Wauters
Nicole Wauters – Gentleness as a Horizon
I met Nicole in a late 19th-century château built on the old foundations of a hunting lodge once owned by General Lefebvre, Duchess of Danzig, also known as “Madame Sans-Gêne.”
What struck me first was the rare harmony between her calm personality and her art — both serene, both kind.
Nicole Wauters paints a world of light and simplicity, where colour itself becomes line. She paints as she breathes: naturally, without affectation, with the clear gaze of someone who still knows how to marvel.
Her paintings speak of quiet places — landscapes, sailboats, houses, bright skies. A peaceful world, still yet full of life.
In every canvas, one feels the gentle assurance of a woman painting simply to share the quiet beauty of everyday life.
Nicole’s art does you good. It soothes. It reminds us that simplicity is not the opposite of depth — it is its purest form.

Nicole tells us:
I am an amateur painter who creates paintings for the joy of it. I have always loved painting and drawing since I was young. When I retired, one of my cousins introduced me to oil painting, and I have continued painting at home since 2003.
Nowadays, I mostly use acrylics, as my husband dislikes the smell of oil paint.
I enjoy visiting art exhibitions, which allow me to discover many different styles, but I feel especially drawn to the Impressionists.
I’m delighted to join Philippe’s art class at the castle this year, to improve my technique and benefit from a professional’s advice.
