Barbara Le Louverot

An artist painter of colourful landscapes ?

Barbara sent us her paintings and, right from the start, we had our eyes wide open. Very quickly, it became clear: his works do not seek to define themselves. They invite to a stroll, to an immersion in the senses in some landscapes reimagined.

An artist painter inspired by the Jura

Our visual artist lives and works in the French Jura .
This region is at the heart of his work: a source of constant inspiration, which she transforms into colourful landscapes, somewhere between reality and interpretation.

His paintings reflect an intimate relationship with nature, where the light and the seasons become pictorial material. Indeed, thispaintinghasnothingto dowithanythingto dowith urgency.
Whereas some artists construct within the tension, such as, for example, Nicolas de Staël, she establishes a form of slowness, a gentleness almost meditative. The knife, which she also uses, does not serve here to rush the material, but to place it with precision, in a measured gesture.

At the same time, his work is based on a subtle balance : a synthesis of the form – it does not seek the detail – combined with a great fluidity of colour. The shades, sometimes unreal, open up a space between perception and the imagination.

She mainly creates large horizontal formats . This allows her to create panoramic landscapes, which she is particularly fond of, are often presented in diptychs, arranged one above above the other, according to thematic correspondences.

Watching a work by Barbara, this is not analysing a landscape.
It is about entering it.

Par Barbara

Barbara asked us to share a key aspect of her approach:

« For a long time, I belonged to a class that could be described as elitist, within the Parisian service sector.

I worked there to shine. To be recognised. You had to be seen. Admired, feared. To project an image of success – right down to the latest smartphone model that you never put down.

And I nearly lost my mind over it.

The Covid-19 pandemic landed me in intensive care, hooked up to machines. After that, you have to relearn simple tasks, like eating. That experience completely changed my outlook. It made me realise how vain I was. How deluded I was.

I left that world behind. I turned my back on the big CAC 40 companies.
I settled in the Jura, on a small plot of land.

These days, I tend my garden. I have friends. I work in a shop in Clairvaux-les-Lacs. And I live far removed from the hustle and bustle of mass production.

I’m free. »
